Custom Pool Construction in Houston

From the first sketch to the day you dive in, Venture Pool Company designs and builds custom gunite pools made for Houston yards, Houston soil, and the way your family actually wants to use the water.

Why Venture

Why Houston families build with Venture

A new pool is a real investment, and the company you choose matters as much as the design. We have built and cared for Houston pools since 2003 — and we have built our reputation on doing it honestly.

Family-owned since 2003

Two decades of Houston pool building — same family, same shop on Arbor Street. We build pools we expect to drive past for the next twenty years.

One team, start to finish

Design, permitting, excavation, and finish work are handled by our own crews — not handed off to a rotating cast of subcontractors.

Houston knowledge built in

We know this city's clay soil, drainage, and permitting offices. That experience keeps your build on schedule and clear of expensive surprises.

Still here after the build

When the pool is done, the same company maintains it and services the equipment. Your builder and your service company are one and the same.

Built to last

Why we build in gunite

There are three common ways to build an inground pool. We build in gunite — and after 20+ years in Houston backyards, here is the honest comparison.

Gunite

What we build

Concrete sprayed over steel and shaped by hand — any size, any shape, any depth. It is the most durable option and the standard for a true custom pool. Gunite costs more up front and takes longer to build, and the interior finish is refreshed periodically over the pool's long life.

Fiberglass

A pre-molded shell lowered into the excavation. It installs quickly with a smooth surface, but you are limited to the manufacturer's shapes and sizes — and even the largest shells have to fit down a road on a truck. A fair option for a small, simple pool; not a custom one.

Vinyl Liner

A framed pool lined with a vinyl sheet. It carries the lowest up-front price, but the liner needs replacing every several years, and it is the least forgiving of Houston heat, sun, and the occasional dropped patio chair.

Design

Every pool we build is one of a kind

Your pool should fit your yard, your home, and your family — not a template. These are the directions most Houston builds start from; yours becomes its own design.

Freeform & Lagoon

Curved, natural shapes with rockwork, beach entries, and lush planting — a backyard that feels like a getaway.

Modern Geometric

Clean lines, sharp angles, and crisp finishes that pair with contemporary Houston architecture.

Family Pool

Generous shallow areas, easy steps, and open sightlines — built for kids, floats, and weekend crowds.

Pool & Spa Combo

An attached spa that spills into the pool — year-round use and a built-in spot to unwind after a long day.

Lap & Exercise

A long, clean swimming lane for staying in shape, with room left over to simply cool off.

Plunge & Cocktail

A compact pool that makes the most of a smaller Inner Loop lot — big on style, easy on space.

The details

Water features that set a pool apart

The right water feature turns a pool into the centerpiece of the backyard — and adds the sound of moving water to every evening outside. A few of the options we build:

Sheer Descents

A smooth, wide sheet of water falling from a raised wall — clean, modern, and quietly dramatic.

Rock Waterfalls & Grottos

Natural stone waterfalls, and grottos you can sit behind — the heart of a lagoon-style build.

Deck Jets & Laminars

Arcing streams that leap from the deck into the water, lit at night for real wow factor.

Bubblers & Fountains

Gentle bubblers on a tanning ledge or shallow steps — playful by day, elegant by night.

Vanishing Edges

An infinity edge where the water seems to drop into the horizon — best on a lot with a view or a slope.

Custom Slides

Slides worked into rockwork or the pool structure — the feature the kids will ask for first.

Local know-how

What building a pool in Houston really involves

Houston’s ground and weather shape every pool built here. Handling these realities so you never have to think about them is part of our job — but it helps to know what is going on under your backyard.

Houston's clay soil

Much of the Houston area sits on expansive gumbo clay that swells and shrinks with the seasons. We engineer the pool's structure and steel for this soil so it stays solid for decades.

Drainage & the water table

A high water table and heavy rains mean drainage is not optional. We plan deck drainage and grading so storm water moves away from the pool and your home — not toward them.

Trees & debris

Houston's mature oaks and pines are beautiful and merciless on a pool. We weigh tree placement, roots, and equipment access when we site the pool and lay out the deck.

Freeze protection

Houston winters are mild until, every few years, they are not. We install equipment and plumbing with freeze events in mind and show you exactly what to do when a hard freeze is coming.

The process

Our 10-step construction process

A pool build has a lot of moving parts. Here is exactly how yours goes — and where you will hear from us along the way.

  1. Consultation & site visit

We walk your yard, talk through how you want to use the pool, and look at access, sun, slope, and utilities — the things that shape both the design and the budget.

  2. Custom design & 3D rendering

We turn that conversation into a design you can actually see, paired with a clear, itemized bid. No vague allowances, no guesswork.

  3. Permits & HOA approval

We prepare and submit Houston-area permits and HOA paperwork. It usually takes a couple of weeks, and we manage all of it for you.

  4. Excavation

The dramatic day — your yard becomes a pool-shaped hole. Most digs wrap up in a day or two.

  5. Steel & plumbing

Steel rebar is tied into the pool's shape and the plumbing lines are run — the skeleton and circulation system of your pool.

  6. Gunite application

Concrete is sprayed over the steel to form the pool shell, then cures for about a month while the rest of the work continues.

  7. Tile, coping & decking

Waterline tile, coping, and your chosen decking go in. This is the stage where it finally starts to look like a pool.

  8. Equipment installation

Pumps, filter, heater, automation, and any salt system are installed and wired — the hardware that quietly runs everything.

  9. Plaster & fill

The interior finish goes on and we start filling right away, since the finish has to cure underwater. We do not stop the hose until the pool is full.

  10. Pool school & handoff

We balance the water, walk you through how everything works, and set you up with a maintenance plan if you want one. Then you swim.

Planning

What a custom pool costs

Every custom pool is priced to its design, so there is no honest one-size-fits-all number. These are the factors that move the price the most:

  • Overall size, depth, and shape complexity
  • Interior finish — plaster, quartz, or pebble
  • Waterline tile and coping selections
  • Decking material and square footage
  • Water features, lighting, and an attached spa
  • Equipment package — automation, heater, salt system
  • Site conditions — access, soil, and slope
  • Landscaping and outdoor living built around the pool

The best way to get a real number is a free on-site consultation — we design to your yard and your budget, and the bid comes back itemized.
